Associació Solidària Elimu Àfrica is a non-profit association founded in Mallorca in August 2025 with a clear mission: to bring education to the children in Africa who need it most. We are a group of people united by the conviction that education is the most powerful force for changing the world.
“Elimu” comes from Swahili and means education. But for us, the word goes far beyond classrooms and books: it stands for freedom, hope and equal opportunities. When a child can learn, a whole community can move forward.

At the heart of Associació Solidària Elimu Àfrica are Presides Kakui, Santi Marcé, Teresa Gelabert and Ponç Llaneras. We come from different backgrounds but share the same spirit of solidarity. Presides, who was born in Kenya and co-founded the Nairobi school we work with, knows the reality of many African communities first-hand and inspires us every day with her strength and sensitivity; she came to Mallorca years ago and is an English teacher. Teresa, an early years and primary teacher and special educational needs specialist, brings, together with Presides, educational experience and a deep belief that every child has the right to learn. Santi, a lawyer who works at the Balearic Ministry of Education, also knows first-hand how important education is. Ponç, who works in IT, puts his creativity and technical know-how at the service of the project.

Together we decided to turn concern into action. Our first step was to join forces and organise fundraising activities in Mallorca. We brought together a group of collaborators who make unique handmade items and, together with donated second-hand goods, we have run many charity stalls to raise funds. Our biggest event so far was a charity art exhibition in Inca, where local artists donated works to fund the construction of a school in Nairobi, along with a charity pa amb oli (Mallorca’s traditional bread with olive oil) that brought together families, friends and supporters in an atmosphere full of hope and commitment.
Thanks to these efforts, we have begun working with St. Elizabeth Integrated Learning Centre, a home and school in Nairobi (Kenya), helping to complete a building where dozens of children will have a safe place to live and learn.
Associació Solidària Elimu Àfrica works with transparency, closeness and passion. We know that our project is small, but we also know that every action, however small, can have an immense impact. Because we believe that education is the strongest bridge between poverty and freedom, and we want to help build it, step by step, with a Mallorcan heart and an African spirit.
Transparency is very important to us. That is why we publish the association’s accounts and the annual balance of its transactions on the Transparency page, so that anyone can see how we use every euro.
